from 366 reviewsI am a professional firefighter and paramedic this book provides direct transferable application to my profession. A large consideration to detail I find to be extremely beneficial to not only myself but to my crew as well. This is by far the best printed text to better the physical readiness and metal fortitude of the individual. I sincerely thank you for the amount of hard work that is put into this book.
I was interested in this book in relation to the Fire Service. I have been a firefighter for 13 years. I want to broaden my ability to teach the next generation of firefighters using some of the principle's of this book.
I will say, this book is PACKED with information and different studies supporting that information. There is not a lot of filler which is perfect. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in increasing your mental capacity and understanding what we are capable of as humans.
This is required reading for anyone interested in physical and mental skill development. I have been training on and off (mostly on) with Craig and these methods for over 10 years and I would not be the person I am today, or where I am in life without him and the material in this book. These training methods have gotten me physically and mentally prepared for various difficult life and work tasks, grueling ultra long distance races, running a successful business, and life in general. There is so much great information in here that translates to day to day life, as well as training- You can benefit from these methods even if you are not training for special operations. I have never been stronger, fitter, tougher, or better equipped to deal with stress than when I was training with Craig. With the consistent long term results I got, I can only imagine what this would do for someone in the special operations pipeline.
The book is easy to read- the information is clear, coherent, easy to implement, and the stories are relatable and entertaining.
Everyone should read this book, whether they are training to be special operators or just want to be a better, more resilient human.
After working with SpecOp individual’s for 25 years, this is hands down, the BEST resource on developing tactical athletes and elite military warriors, I’ve ever seen!!!
This is really a text book, easily something that could be utilized in any college curriculum. Prepare to digest slowly, there is a ton of info here- Arguably the most comprehensive I have ever scene on the subject of “tactical fitness” (which I utilize to say mental and physical fitness)
This book can easily be worth double (possibly even triple) the amount that it’s sold for due to the vast amount of knowledge and information it offers. It goes not only into training itself, but into the thought processes with which we should view our training. It also highlights the flaws of most programs out there. To say that this book is only for those interested in participating in selection would be to pigeonhole it into a small category that it actually transcends. I honestly can’t say enough great things about it. Well done guys
The value of Building the Elite has to offer easily would make this book four times the price. I would have happily paid a textbook price for Building the Elite. BTE is an information Goldmine written in an easily digestible manner, and I cannot recomend this book enough! A lot of different SOF programs talk about the need for being a balanced candidate/operator, BTE walls you through the theory and application of these principles.
After being in SOF for 8 years, I sincerely believe that this book is the quintessential one stop piece of literature for any prospective SOF Candidate. It’s interesting to see the different mindsets and mental approaches to deal with stress/pain/endurance that are laid out in this book, many of which I have found myself doing during my train up for selection and deployments etc, many have been done subconsciously and it’s really interesting to see them put to paper for anyone to pick up. This book is a tool box with all the instruments needed to be successful. It covers everything from physical preparation, nutrition, and mobility all the way to headspace and timing mentally, attitude, cognition under stress and resiliency. This is your one stop shop for SoF selection prep, in the end you will have all the tools but it will be on you to put the tools to use. I truly wish I had this book before I went to selection.
